Inamuragasaki (Inamuragasaki) is a cape on the west side of Kamakura. Weather permitting if, there is Mount Fuji in the background. The foreground, there is a sea. There is a famous legend in this cape. The legend was born in 1333 battle. Warlords that Nitta Yoshisada (NITTA Yoshisada) is the protagonist of the story.
He was trying to attack the Kamakura shogunate. However, defense of the land of the Kamakura shogunate was thorough. Yoshisada tried to invasion by the sea, but had been hampered by the waves.
Yoshisada prayed and threw the sword into the sea. Then wave stood out. His army was able to invade Kamakura. Kamakura shogunate was destroyed by this attack. For this reason, Inamuragasaki has been designated as a national historic site. Monument of this legend has been built there.
In this neighborhood, big wave surfing contest called "Inamura Classic" has been held. Organizer of this competition is to set the "wave waiting period" in typhoon season (August-September). If there is a big wave in the period, tournament will be held.
This tournament was first held in 1981, the last time in 2013, before that was in 1989. This tournament was not held for 24 years. Surfers were called "Inamura Janes" a big wave that would come to Inamuragasaki. Janes is the name of a huge typhoon No. 28 of 1950.
For surfers, Inamura Janes has turned into one of the legend. Kuwata Keisuke (KUWATA Keisuke) has created a film called "Inamura Janes". KUWATA Keisuke is a famous band of vocal of Japan. KUWATA Keisuke has also composed music for the movie.
There is a natural cave in Inamuragasaki. The end of World War II, the cave of Inamuragasaki was built a secret military base. Kamikaze pilot wearing a diving suit, has the training to attack the submarine. Battery and 25mm machine gun had been installed in the cave entrance. Currently, the cave is off-limits. At low tide, you can see the entrance of the cave from the coast.
Sandy Inamuragasaki is very black. It is not because dirty. The sand of this beach, contains a large amount of iron sand. Iron sand will come flowing from the river just west of Inamuragasaki. One of the brand to represent the Japanese sword is "Masamune (Masamune)". Masamune is a brand from the Middle Ages, has been manufactured in Kamakura. Masamune is the name of the founder.
