Factory to symbolize the industrial revolution has been designated a national treasure


Tomioka Silk Mill
December 10, Tomioka Silk Mill in Gunma Prefecture, has been designated a national treasure. This historic site has been registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in June this year.

Tomioka Silk Mill was built by the Meiji government as a model plant in 1872. French silk inspection people Buryuna reblogged guidance construction. Main building is half-timbered brick.

Many of the engineers and factory girls have learned the technology of raw silk produced in this factory. Their technology has spread in Japan. Japan has achieved the modernization by export of raw silk. This place is the what was the starting point of Japan's industrial revolution.

Japanese have learned the history of this plant in compulsory education. In Japan, it is one of the most famous factory heritage. People of local governments and volunteers have been working to save the building, has expressed joy after the national treasure designation.
